Questions!
So someone reading this site (other than my family) asks if anyone can remember the name of the diner on Queens Boulevard at the North East corner of its intersection with Van Loon Street. I should remember it because I ate there a few times before it became Harbor City, but the name escapes me. Does anyone recall?

Was it called Golden Pond? There's currently a Golden Pond in Forest Hills, so maybe I'm getting them mixed up, but I seem to remember it being called that...
The Apollo 11 Diner.
I believe it was the Sage Diner..
The Sage was located at the end of Maurice Ave where it met Queens Blvd across the Street from the Elks Club
The Sage, which was one of the most famous diners back in the 60's and 70's was across Queens Blvd. it is now Pop's Diner.
The name of that diner in the picture was indeed the Apollo.
It opened in the mid 70's and had short lived fame until the Georgia Diner opened in the very late 70s.
The Georgia is still one of the buissiest diners in Queens.
My mom worked for a short time at the Apollo and I worked many years at the Georgia!!
The Sage was a great diner. The Georgia Diner was and I guess still is very crowded.
In the 50's the only restaurant that I can recall was the former White Castle on the same site as it now stands. Working class people at at home. In my case our family at 5:30 pm. I was never late or else.
When I grew up in the 50's there were few cars on the street. Parking was easy. When we bought our home in 1956 at 92-29 53rd Avenue, nobody dared park in front of it because it was our spot. There were private house on Queens Boulevard and we played baseball on a small lot adjacent to Fairyland, across from Newtown field. The school yards had their gates closed but it was a rite of passage to climb over them with panache.
It was also called the broadway diner in the 80's and early 90's
I grew up on VAn Loon during the 70's and 80's. It was the Off Broadway Diner before it a Chinese slop shack. I remember when the owners held a contest to find a new name to replace the Apollo. My mothers friend Ann Hart I believe won. In those days I could buy cigarettes for a 50 cents for my father and I was under the age of 10.

The Sage
That Pic was the Apollo 11 diner without question. My mom Nancy worked in there as a waitress and even served Telly Savalas a.k.a Kojak The Apollo 11 was owned by a Guy named Pete.He took his business to the Queens Center Mall which had been open and was part of the big cafeteria.
My mom years earlier worked at the Sage Diner which was about 2 blocks away and 1 block from the Elks lodge which was across the Blvd. from RAYCO.
I believe this diner was called "Hong Kong Diner" prior to it's last incarnation.
The SAGE
It was called the hong kong "something"
I grew up in Elmhurst from 1964 going through present and it was the Sage Diner for the longest time then sold and name changed to I think Apollo
Sage Diner., for sure.
My Friends Margie, Walter and Kay worked there as food servers, it was the Apollo for sure!!!
Tiffanis Diner , they were being sued by Tiffany's NY so they spelled it with an "i" instead of a "y" to avoid going to court. I grew up on Reeder St which was the street to the right of the front of the diner.
It was The Phoenix diner.

The Georgia Diner recently closed and if I'm not mistaken it is now located where the Sage Diner was located.
It WAS the Sage. I lived in the Alabama apt building on the corner of 51st Ave and Broadway(owned by the Lefrack corp.). I used to go to the Sage with my parents. Nearby on Queens Blvd was the Pan American Motor Inn. We used to pay 25 cents to swim all day in the pool. It was great growing up in Elmhurst!

It was the Tiffany Diner and had a neon diamond. It was owned by my Uncle Spiro. The best memories. We celebrated New Years of 1980 there. He sold shortly after and opened the Tiffany Diner in Florida on Oakland Park Blvd in Fort Lauderdale.
You are correct!
